The President of the Slovak Republic appointed Miloš Lichner to the post of rector of the University of Trnava

Today, the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, appointed Miloš Lichner a rector of the University of Trnava.
"It is a significant moment for you, but also for the University of Trnava, which you represent and which you have led so far," declared President Peter Pellegrini.
"Your official appointment at the head of a prestigious higher education institution thus opens up the possibility for you to continue your work and the projects already underway. It represents the pinnacle of your academic career, it is the benefit of your long-term preparation, but also of your experience. It certifies your expert, professional, but also moral qualities, because they are also an essential part of the professional, but also human equipment of a university teacher who shapes the next generations."
During his four-year term, the theologian Miloš Lichner aims to prepare a new University Development Model, cooperate with consortia, build an auditorium and congress center and strengthen the network of foreign partners.
He will also support the creation of professionally oriented study programs according to the needs of practice. His s intention is to expand lifelong education and the gradual digitization of teaching and administration.
"I am determined to lead the University of Trnava on a complex path of discovery, a path that integrates intellectual, personal, and ethical formation," says new rector Miloš Lichner.
Who is Miloš Lichner?
Prof. Thlic. Miloš Lichner, D.Th. is a Catholic priest and a member of the Society of Jesus. He is an expert on Latin early Christian literature, specializing in the theology of Saint Augustine and early Christian dogmatic theology. He is the author or co-author of several scientific monographs and dozens of scientific studies. From 2012 to 2019, he worked as the dean of the theological faculty, later as a vice-rector, and in 2024 he was appointed rector of the University of Trnava.
He is the former president of the European Society for Catholic Theology. He is active on social networks, engagingly presenting the spiritual wealth of early Christian texts He participates in the interreligious dialogue between Judaism and Christianity. Most recently, he published inspirational quotes from St. Augustine under the title We are free when we love.
